SLF Celebrated World Environment Day 2017 with Nature Clubs in Qurumbar Valley

Snow Leopard Foundation never miss any opportunity where the local stakeholders can be involved in awareness and educational activities. The international days always provide us such opportunity to plan and arrange events which involves local community, particularly youth and students. Snow Leopard Foundation has established Nature Clubs in schools around the GB and Chitral region for creating awareness and building capacity in environmental education. For this purpose, the teachers of nature club schools are given appropriate trainings by SLF team. This year’s World Environment Day was celebrated on 5th June with Nature Clubs of Qurumbar Valley by SLF. An event was arranged in FG High School Immit. Students and teachers from nature clubs of four other government and private schools in the valley were also invited. The event was planned according to this year’s theme of environment day “Connecting people to the nature”. Mr. Wali Khan, Conservation Officer SLF GB represented Snow Leopard Foundation at the occasion. More than 200 people including students, Mother Support Group (MSG), Members of School Management Committee (SMC), Head Masters/Principals, senior citizens and members of Qurumbar Social Welfare Conservation and Develop0ment Organization (QSWCDO) of the valley participated in the celebration. Based on environment and conservation theme, a quiz and drawing competition was held. The organizers were delighted to see the enthusiasm of students and their level of interest while competing in the competitions. Their fellow students backed them up all along the competition. Prizes were distributed among the winners, SLF distributed its recently launched comic book on snow leopard and human conflict among winners. The book will also be distributed in other nature club schools for their libraries. The students expressed their happiness to be part of the event. They told SLF team that such activities always help in enriching their knowledge about environment and conservation of wildlife. They showed keen interest in the comic book as well. During the speeches, the speakers highlighted importance of World Environment Day, the benefits of environmental education and awareness among general public. The speakers were impressed with student’s participation and their knowledge on environment and conservation which was demonstrated by them in quiz and drawing competition. In the end the management of FG High School Immit thanked all the guests and SLF for its contribution in making the event successful.
