SLF Chitral Celebrated World Environment Day 2017

Snow Leopard Foundation celebrated World Environment Day 2017 in Chitral on June 05, 2017. The event was organized by Nature Clubs of SLF Program Areas & SLF Program Office Chitral supported by Wildlife Department Chitral, Education Department Chitral, Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Forest Department Chitral and Chitral Gol National Park. The event was held in Ideal Public School Koghuzi. A drawing and painting competition was arranged for school children members of nature clubs around SLF program area. The topic of competition was “Snow Leopard Habitat”, based on this year’s Environment Day theme “Connecting People to Nature” the painting competition topic was selected to create awareness among children about the relationship of human, wildlife and nature. The importance of each in the ecosystem and how to protect and conserve it. DFO Wildlife Chitral Gol National Park Abdul Samad Wazir was the chief guest at the occasion, while Mr. Muhkamud-Din a renowned journalist and artist presided over the event. Thirty-two students in six groups participated in drawing and painting competition, they were given one hour to draw and paint on the topic “Snow Leopard Habitat”. All together more than seventy students participated in different competitions and activity during the event. The chief guest gave away prizes to the winners of painting competition, principal of Ideal Public School Mr. Atiq Ur Rehman was given a shield for his special contribution in arranging the even at the school. Speaking at the ceremony the chief guest appreciated all the participants and organizers for making the event successful and memorable. “ I am extremely impressed with the quality of paintings by the students which showed high standard of creativity” said DFO Wildlife Chitral Gol National Park Abdul Samad Wazir. He also stressed on organizing similar events on regular basis for capacity building of students and to create interest in them towards wildlife and environment conservation. Mr. Khurshid Ali Shah Senior Associate Conservation SLF Chitral Office thanked Wildlife Department Chitral, Education Department Chitral, Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Forest Department Chitral and Chitral Gol National Park and local community for their support in organizing the event. He told the participants and guests about SLF’s commitment of protecting and conserving the wildlife and ecosystem in region. SLF’s initiative of livestock vaccination and ecosystem health training program has received appreciation from the local community which helped in decreasing the livestock mortality rate due to control on various animal diseases.
