Celebrating Biodiversity: SLF, FJWU, and MoCC&EC Mark International Day with Youth-Led Innovation

Islamabad, May 22, 2025The Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF), in collaboration with Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) and the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC), organized a dynamic and thought-provoking event to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity 2025 at FJWU’s New Auditorium in Rawalpindi.

The event brought together prominent environmental leaders, policymakers, and students to raise awareness on biodiversity conservation. Chief Guest Sardar Jamal Leghari, Wildlife Ambassador and GSLEP Emissary, emphasized the vital role of biodiversity in sustaining life and applauded SLF’s efforts in protecting endangered species like the snow leopard.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza stressed the importance of academic institutions in driving change and empowering youth, while MoCC&EC’s Naeem Ashraf Raja called for stronger integration of science, policy, and community actions. Mr. Melis Moldaliev, Charge d’Affaires of the Kyrgyz Republic, also graced the occasion.

A highlight of the event was the participation of 13 student groups from FJWU’s Environmental Sciences Department who showcased impactful research projects, awareness videos, and e-posters. The top three groups were awarded certificates in recognition of their creativity and scientific contribution.

Dr. Shoaib Hameed, Senior Program Manager at SLF, presented the Foundation’s inclusive and science-driven conservation initiatives in Pakistan’s mountainous regions, while SLF’s Mr. Tayyab Shehzad concluded the event by reaffirming SLF’s commitment to biodiversity, youth engagement, and environmental education.
