Capacity Building

A shortage of trained human resources to tackle conservation and research issues relating to wildlife conservation is an imminent threat to the biodiversity of the country. Realizing this need, SLF has achieved remarkable success in education and capacity building, alongside its scientific endeavors. Over 900 individuals, including field staff from Wildlife Departments, community members, and students, have been trained in wildlife survey techniques, enhancing local expertise in ecological research. In terms of academic contributions, the program has been instrumental in the completion of 50 MPhil and 6 Ph.D. degrees, indicating a significant impact on higher education in the field. The project’s research prowess is further evidenced by the publication of approximately 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, showcasing its role in advancing global scientific knowledge. Additionally, it has made strides in environmental education by establishing 50 Student Nature Clubs with a total of 1200 members across schools within the program’s reach. This initiative fosters a deepened understanding and appreciation of nature among young learners, furthering the project’s commitment to ecological conservation and awareness.

Fostering Postgraduate Research

Since its inception, SLF has engaged postgraduate students in ecological research by providing them with technical assistance and field exposure. More than 30 students have completed their thesis with SLF support.

Capacity Building of Partner Organizations

SLF engages field staff from the provincial wildlife departments in all three project regions for wildlife monitoring and community engagement. The staff is regularly involved in camera trapping and ungulate surveys during the studies. These exercises help the staff enhance their research skills through on-field training.

Youth and Conservation

SLF engages and encourages the involvement of youth as part of its conservation work and has been conducting conservation learning for students from all over Pakistan. Moreover, SLF conducts such activities in collaboration with various organizations for students from different schools, colleges and universities around the country. Students take part in the construction work of […]
