Islamabad, October 23, 2024 – International Snow Leopard Day was celebrated at FAST University in Islamabad with an inspiring event led by the Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF) and GenerationFAST – Snow Leopard. The gathering brought together notable figures in conservation, academia, and diplomacy to emphasize the importance of snow leopard preservation.
His Excellency Mr. Avazbek Atakhanov, Kyrgyz Ambassador to Pakistan, shared Kyrgyzstan’s dedication to snow leopard conservation, with plans to enhance scientific collaboration with Pakistan. Highlighting the role of education, Dr. Aftab Ahmad, Rector of FAST University, called on youth to take an active part in tackling climate change and wildlife preservation.
The event also featured a documentary showcasing SLF’s conservation work and announced Pakistan’s proposal to recognize the snow leopard as a global symbol for climate resilience at the United Nations. The celebration left attendees motivated and underscored the shared responsibility for preserving this majestic species and its alpine habitat.
