Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF) is a nonprofit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) under Companies Act 2017 and is aimed to conserve viable populations of snow leopards and other wild carnivores as an integral part of landscapes across Pakistan, while improving the Socio- economic conditions of the people who share fragile mountain ecosystems with carnivores.
SLF intends to hire the services of a
Conservation Officer.
Main activities and responsibilities
Job description:
The Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF) is looking to hire a Conservation Officer to support the execution of the ongoing conservation projects focusing on the establishment and management of protected areas (Pas) by developing and implementing the management plans, improving community-based wildlife surveillance, initiating the human-wildlife conflict mitigation & compensation measures including livelihood improvement programs in the buffer zone communities. The incumbent will report to the Regional Program Manager (RPM), Chitral for the accomplishment of the following tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Keep close liaison with the program site communities in Lower and Upper Chitral Districts to sensitize them and get them fully onboard in the implementation of the activities under different ongoing projects.
- Lead the planning, collection, management, and reporting of the socioeconomic and programmatic data from the program sites.
- Lead the initiation, implementation, and monitoring of community-based conservation and livelihood improvement measures such as the construction of predator-proof corrals, livestock vaccination drives, livestock insurance schemes, agroforestry, conservation tourism, and microenterprises schemes.
- Support the RPM in developing conservation agreements with the communities for the initiation of various conservation and livelihood improvement programs.
- Conduct planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the research studies.
- Ensure timely accomplishment of the tasks assigned, identify risks, and propose management measures.
- Develop field visit/monitoring, and activity completion reports of the tasks assigned.
- Maintain hard and soft copies of the data and manage information as per data/information management protocols of the SLF.
- Update the Program Impact Sheet periodically.
- Lead the celebration of the environmental days.
- Establish and strengthen student nature clubs in schools falling in the program sites.
- Lead the arrangements for the capacity-building measures of teachers in conservation education and outdoor activities focusing on nature club members.
- Support developing baselines for the development of management plans.
- Draft quarterly, midterm, and annual updates of the projects/programs for the review of management.
Qualification and Experience:
- Postgraduate degree in natural resource management, developmental studies, or related fields.
- 2-3 years’ experience in community mobilization and implementation of community-based conservation and developmental projects.
Required skills:
- Proven experience as a conservation management professional;
- Experience in developing socioeconomic and ecological baselines;
- Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with data decoding and analysis and participatory assessment tools;
- Solid report writing skills;
- Knowledge of the cultural norms of the mountain communities including land use and management system;
